Hi guys! Feel free to email me if you have personal questions, lessons or help needed when it comes to calligraphy. I'll be glad to help you! :) Just fill up the Contact Me Form at my homepage. This post is inspired by a reader who contacted me and wanted to learn more about bounce lettering, so here it is!

Bounce Lettering is a style frequently used by modern calligraphers/letterers. You can usually see this style on Pinterest, Bullet journals or invitations. It adds more attitude to your letters and it creates a fun, whimsical look that I love and enjoy!

The main secret in Bounce lettering is to create loops, scallops or curved patterns. This will serve as your "baseline" or where your letters will lie or take place.

Be creative with your loops pattern. You can use a uniform pattern(1st EXAMPLE, TOP PICTURE) for your words to look clean and organized. You can also use alternate sizes pattern(2nd AND 3rd EXAMPLE, TOP PICTURE) for your letters to be more fun. It can either be small letter first then big, or big letter first then small.

With the word Joy, I used the alternate pattern. I started with a big letter first(J), and then small(O) and big (Y) again. In this way, the words "bounce" up and down, which adds more attitude and will look more fun! You can also use a freestyle pattern just like with the word small, I just let the letters "bounce" without using any pattern. I just focused more on how the tails of each letter connect with one another naturally. It's up to you on what pattern you'll use. :) If you're more comfortable to draw the bouncing loops first before writing the letters, do so! This is helpful in practicing bounce lettering.

Don't be afraid to try both alternate patterns so you can see which one looks better. Notice how I started with a small letter first then big(TOP EXAMPLE). I also tried using a big letter first then small(BOTTOM EXAMPLE). I prefer the first or top example first for the word alphabet than the second or bottom example. :)

Emphasizing or elongating the tails of each letter is also a great style tip!

Continue practicing and just enjoy writing and making your words fancier! It's really up to you on how you want to write your words in calligraphy whether it is in a neat or clean way, or in a fun way such as how bounce lettering is. I hope these tips and techniques on Bounce Lettering are helpful for you, as it was helpful for me but the way you write it or how you style letters definitely makes it more unique and fun!

Let's make words fancier together!

much love,
